"I also want to make sure that any individual that's getting expelled has due process." Garcia, from California, introduced his resolution as privileged, meaning it must get a vote within two days under House rules. He said a vote would make Republicans go on the record about whether they "stand for truth and accountability or if they're going to stand with someone that's clearly a liar." D’Esposito, the lead sponsor of the resolution, said he spoke with Johnson over the weekend about their efforts and the speaker did not ask him to pull the resolution.

In a social media post, Mr. Santos said he was worried that he and Representative Nick LaLota, the Republican he was running to unseat, might split conservative votes. “I don’t want to split the ticket and be responsible for handing the House to Dems,” he wrote. In the litany of lies and half-truths told by George Santos in a fanciful journey in which he was first elected to and then expelled from Congress, the one he told about his nascent campaign for a different House seat on Long Island was not exactly a lie. "Although Nick and I don't have the same voting record and I remain critical of his abysmal record, I don't want to split the ticket and be responsible for handing the house to Dems ... Staying in this race all but guarantees a victory for the Dems in the race," he wrote. Senate, governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, controller, treasurer, attorney general, and races for U.S. representative in Congress, state senator and state Assemblymember. The so-called documentary transfer tax would generate an estimated $600 million to $1.1 billion a year, according to a city analysis, and the proceeds would fund affordable housing construction, rental subsidies and tenant defense, among other things.

The new CBS Reports documentary, "Campaign of Deceit," revealed that Santos' work for an investment firm that was later accused of being a Ponzi scheme attracted scrutiny from the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to a witness who fielded questions from investigators. Santos told reporters at the Capitol on Thursday that he was unaware of any wrongdoing at the firm, known as Harbor City Capital. The resolution is mostly symbolic and unlikely to reach the floor for a vote, as House GOP leadership has so far declined to call on Santos to resign. Santos has admitted to fabricating several aspects of his work history and education, and now faces several investigations, including probes related to his finances and his fundraising for charity. "I don't want to split the ticket and be responsible for handing the house to Dems," Santos wrote in a social media post. Washington — Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia introduced a resolution Tuesday to expel Republican Rep. George Santos from Congress, seeking to force Republicans in the House to go on the record over whether the indicted New York congressman should keep his seat.
“I do not believe that the Long Island crew is acting in bad faith, just exceedingly bad judgement,” said the Florida Republican representative Matt Gaetz. "George Santos has built his persona, his personal and political life, on a foundation of lies," said Ethics Committee chairman Michael Guest, a Republican from Mississippi. “Expel me and set the precedent so we can see who the judge, jury and executioners in Congress are,” he wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Other wild card candidates included Elaine Phillips, the Nassau County comptroller; Kellen Curry, an Air Force veteran and former banker; and Jack Martins, a well-known state senator who has run for the seat before.

Santos was removed from the House in a historic vote in early December -- after an internal campaign led in part by LaLota -- and he has pleaded not guilty to pending charges that include wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. But the release of the Ethics Committee report gave momentum to a third attempt, with lawmakers who previously voted against expelling Santos announcing they would now support it. "Are we to now assume that one is no longer innocent until proven guilty, and they are in fact guilty until proven innocent?" Santos said in a floor speech Tuesday night, arguing that he has not been provided due process, unlike the handful of lawmakers who have been expelled. "I ask that all my colleagues in the House consider and understand what this means for the future." The report alleged Santos stole money from his congressional campaign to pay for his personal expenses, reported fake loans, deceived donors and engaged in fraudulent business dealings. Noting the depth of his embellishments about his education, career and family, investigators said Santos' campaign staff encouraged him to seek treatment for his constant lying.

House debates resolution to expel Republican George Santos – as it happened.
The vote on Friday to expel former Representative George Santos, Republican of New York, from Congress was an overwhelming rebuke from his colleagues, including many members of his own party. Ultimately, it was Republican members like Mr. Guest, who gave a passionate defense of the committee’s report during the House debate on Thursday, whose opinion carried the day. Max Landau, 28, who lives a few blocks away, said that he had a front-row seat to the spectacle that has for months surrounded Mr. Santos. Mr. Santos, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, is due back in court on Dec. 12, and is scheduled to go on trial in September. The Ethics Committee report said that real money came through months later to fill the hole, but it nonetheless raised questions about whether it was transferred legally.

The resolution comes a day after the committee released a scathing report that concluded there is “substantial evidence” Santos “violated federal criminal laws,” including using campaign funds for personal purposes and filing false campaign reports. In October, that group of New Yorkers introduced the second resolution to expel Mr. Santos, after he was indicted on 10 new federal charges. His former campaign treasurer, Nancy Marks, also pleaded guilty to an overlapping matter, and in court she said that she conspired with Mr. Santos to report a fictitious campaign loan and fake contributions. Santos was expelled from Congress in December after the release of a report by the House Ethics committee that found "substantial evidence" he had violated federal law and used campaign money for personal expenses. Santos became only the sixth member of Congress to ever be expelled after a House ethics report concluded that there was “substantial evidence” that Santos “violated federal criminal laws.” It alleged that he spent campaign funds on luxury goods, Botox and OnlyFans payments.
Mr. Santos and his treasurer, Nancy Marks, have been charged with making up tens of thousands of dollars in donations on campaign finance reports, to give the impression that Mr. Santos’s campaign was attracting significant attention. In October, prosecutors added more charges in a superseding indictment, accusing Mr. Santos of falsifying a $500,000 campaign loan, stealing the identities of donors to his campaign and using their credit card information to transfer money to his personal bank account. The Republican Party chairman in Nassau County has been vetting possible candidates for months, while Democratic leaders have privately indicated that they would most likely put forward Thomas R. Suozzi, who held the seat before Mr. Santos but relinquished it to run for governor. But after Mr. Johnson told his members to “vote their conscience,” nearly half of his conference chose to expel Mr. Santos, a remarkable rebuke from his colleagues.
Federal prosecutors say Santos, who has pleaded not guilty, wired some of the money to his personal bank account and used the rest to pad his campaign coffers. Of the previous expulsions in the House, three were for disloyalty to the Union during the Civil War. The remaining two occurred after the lawmakers were convicted of crimes in federal court.

LaLota played a key role in the bipartisan effort to force Santos from office. Another chapter in the scandal-plagued career of New York Republican George Santos sputtered to an end this week as he abandoned his independent bid for a U.S. "I have decided to withdraw from my independent run for #NY1," Santos said in a statement on X, adding he was concerned that his candidacy could split the vote with GOP Rep. Nick LaLota and deliver the seat to Democrats. "The future holds countless possibilities and I am ready willing and able to step up to the plate and go fight for my country at anytime," he said. "I will continue to participate in the public policy discussion and will do my part… I will always strive to stand on the right side of history. It's only goodbye for now, I'll be back." LaLota has been dismissive of Santos but not of Santos' challenge itself, previously calling his former colleague an "embarrassment" and "one of the most bizarre people I have ever met" but saying he would take the race "seriously."

In Northern California, voters in Emeryville, Walnut Creek, East Palo Alto and Vallejo all supported tax hikes to fund affordable housing and homelessness services, according to KQED. Likewise, El Cajon and Solana Beach in San Diego County were on their way to passing sales tax increases that would, in part, fund homelessness intervention and assistance. Up and down the state, voters largely backed pro-housing ballot measures, including taxes and bonds to build affordable housing, and rejected several measures aimed at making it harder to build.

Under a soon-to-be-replaced awning bearing the name of Congressman George Santos, the former representative’s district office in the Douglaston neighborhood of Queens attracted several people eager to say goodbye on Friday. Ms. Marks pleaded guilty to a felony count of conspiracy to defraud the United States in October and admitted to her role in fraudulently reporting the fictitious loan and donations. Gov. The election must take place between 70 and 80 days after she sets the date. Local party leaders generally pick their nominees in special elections.
Rep. George Santos easily survived a vote Wednesday to expel him from the House as most Republicans and 31 Democrats opted to withhold punishment while both his criminal trial and a House Ethics Committee investigation proceed. The Constitution requires a two-thirds majority of House lawmakers to oust a member. Guest, the chairman of the House Ethics Committee, did not initially bring up his resolution as privileged.

Mr. D’Esposito even introduced a resolution to expel Mr. Santos, using a technical congressional maneuver to override Republican leadership and ensure that it was called to a vote. It’s worth noting how unusual it is for the chairman of the House Ethics Committee to give a speech like this on the floor. Representative Michael Guest, in his personal capacity, is calling for the expulsion of Santos based on the committee’s work but without a criminal conviction. That is unprecedented, and speaks to the deep shame he believes Santos has brought against the institution of the House. Santos has argued repeatedly that a vote to expel him would violate his right to due process. But Representative Nick LaLota, a Republican from Long Island, noted that the Constitution allows the House to set its own terms to expel its members by a two-thirds vote, and that it has different standards and procedures than criminal courts.
Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, head of the California Labor Federation and former head of the AFL-CIO’s San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council, confirmed to The Times that Herrera offered his resignation to the board. “We are focused on rebuilding solidarity and trust in the worker movement,” she said. California is a two-party consent state, which means that it’s illegal to record a conversation unless everyone consents.
Republicans could still move to table or postpone the vote, moves that would each require the support of a majority of the House. Those maneuvers would not rule out a vote on Mr. Guest’s resolution, however, if Republican leadership chooses to act on its own party’s motion to lessen the appearance of Democrats forcing the Republicans’ hand. Gabbard was elected to Congress in 2012 and sought the Democratic nomination for president in 2020.
But a damning report from the House Ethics Committee has complicated Mr. Santos’s defense, offering evidence that he reviewed weekly finance reports and approved invoices. After his expulsion from the House on Friday, George Santos faces an even more daunting and precarious challenge in a federal court on Long Island. Representative Nikema Williams said in a statement that she did not think Santos belonged in the House but did not wish to override the voters who elected him to office.
And in a nearly three-hour rant streamed live on social media over the Thanksgiving holiday, Mr. Santos said that the chamber was full of “felons galore,” accusing his colleagues of corruption, adultery and drunkenness. Santos is a stain on this institution and not fit to serve his constituents in the House of Representatives,” Representative Anthony D’Esposito declared on the floor of the House earlier this month. Representative Clay Higgins of Louisiana is now appealing to fellow Republicans to lay off the expulsion vote. “Some of my brothers here who I love and respect, they’re making a mistake,” he said. LaLota and Santos have a long history of animosity, dating back to Santos’s endorsement of an opposing Republican candidate in the 2022 congressional primary. The only allegation he directly denied — that he had sexually harassed a prospective staffer — was not actually substantiated as a finding in the report.
Federal prosecutors said that Mr. Santos again falsified loans in 2022 in order to make his campaign look more financially robust, reporting a $500,000 donation to his campaign in March that he did not actually make. They also detailed how Mr. Santos used money from donors to perpetuate a fabulous and fraudulent lifestyle, documenting campaign spending on designer clothes, luxury hotels, Botox and OnlyFans. His decision cleared the way for Mr. Santos’s election last year, one of several Republican victories that flipped Democratic districts in New York, helping his party clinch control of the House. Mr. Santos’s forced departure will leave a fractious Republican conference with an even thinner majority in Congress, exacerbating the challenges the party will face to achieve its legislative agenda.
Pressure for him to step down grew after he was indicted by the Justice Department on nearly two dozen federal charges, and reached a fever pitch after the Ethics panel released its report. After months of congressional hand-wringing, Mr. Santos finally met his demise on Friday, after Republicans and Democrats each offered separate expulsion resolutions. We’ve never seen that before,” Guest, who had also voted against Santos’s expulsion prior to the report, told SuperTalk Mississippi Radio.
The race in New York is expected to be one of the most high-profile and expensive off-year House contests in decades. It has the potential to further shrink Republicans’ paper-thin majority and offer a preview of the broader battle for House control next November. The door to Santos’ office in the Longworth Building is locked and Santos has left the building. He then slammed the door when asked what the plan and timeline was for packing up the office. Moments after the vote to expel George Santos, House Republicans immediately grappled with the wisdom and gravity of removing one of their own. Much of the speculation surrounding him has been tied to the source of the more than $700,000 he claimed to have lent his political campaign in 2022.

Guests will be able to see the infamous rooms of Sarah’s stately mansion, known around the world as the Winchester Mystery House®, and see the bizarre attributes that give the mysterious mansion its name. Tragedy befell Sarah – her infant daughter died of a childhood illness and a few years later her husband was taken from her by tuberculosis.
Maybe you’re too afraid to actually step foot inside, for fear of ghostly encounters. Or maybe you’re simply quarantined—like the rest of us—for the foreseeable future and are hungry for some new form of entertainment, preferably of the spooky variety. The month-long, round-the-clock investigation included interviewing over 300 people regarding their experiences on the property, and analyzing every aspect of the environment for any unusual phenomena. In 2018, a horror film was made about the infamous house and the spirits said to live within. A massive earthquake struck the Bay Area in 1906 and toppled the top three stories of the house, damaging the other four stories along with it.
There, she bought an eight-room farmhouse and began what could only be described as the world’s longest home renovation, stopping only when Sarah passed on September 5, 1922. In 1881, William died of tuberculosis, leaving Sarah with a $20 million inheritance and ownership in half of the Winchester company, making her one of the wealthiest women in the United States. Sarah’s mother and father-in-law died in the same year, after which she almost exclusively wore black mourning clothes.
Of course, its size is not the only thing that is unique about the house. Not all the 2,000 doors can be walked through—one leads to an eight-foot drop to a kitchen sink, another to a 15-foot drop into bushes in the garden below. Staircases lead straight to ceilings, expensive Tiffany stained-glass windows were installed in places where they would get no light, and there are more secret passages than Narnia. A particularly odd delight is a cabinet that, when opened, extends through 30 rooms of the house. A popular tourist attraction, the house, along with many other cultural institutions in the United States, has closed to help curb the spread of coronavirus. But as Michele Debczak reports for Mental Floss, you can now explore the Winchester House from afar via a detailed video tour posted on the mansion’s website.
Life Without Light: Creatures in the Dark With Sarah McAnulty
Many visitors are fascinated by the vast collection of windows—more than 10,000 panes—and the fact that some of the loveliest Tiffany stained glass is hidden away where no light can reach it. When Sarah Winchester’s husband, William Wirt Winchester, died in 1881, she became one of the wealthiest women in the world. Exactly why Winchester embarked on this dizzying cycle of building, undoing and rebuilding is impossible to say. The medium reportedly instructed her to constantly build a house for these ghosts. Plus, make sure to stroll through the estate and stop by the Menagerie Oddities Market, open only during Holiday Candlelight Tour days! With a variety of unique vendors, you are sure to find the perfect gift (ticket purchase necessary).

Why did Sarah Winchester continue to make changes until her death? Some say that she believed she would die as soon as the house was declared complete. Others say she created a labyrinth to confuse and evade the spirits that followed her. Whatever you believe the reason is, the Winchester Mystery House is sure to stay in your mind long after your visit.
The 41-minute exploration of the house not only takes you inside its endless supply of odd rooms, but it also offers an in-depth narrated history of the home and the Winchester family. The Winchester Mystery House is a mansion in San Jose, California, that was once the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of firearms magnate William Wirt Winchester. The house became a tourist attraction nine months after Winchester's death in 1922. The Victorian and Gothic-style mansion is renowned for its size and its architectural curiosities and for the numerous myths and legends surrounding the structure and its former owner.

In 1886, Sarah Winchester traveled from New Haven, Connecticut, to San Jose, California, to start a new life. She purchased a small eight-room farmhouse and started a small renovation project that would take 36 years and $5.5 million (in the money of the time), only stopping when she passed away in 1922. The garden tour is entirely outdoors and a completely touchless, experience featuring 20 stops throughout the beautiful Victorian Gardens.

Mr. Biden has in recent months faced protests and opposition to his presidential campaign from Americans who are sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinians and angry at the United States for arming Israel in the fighting in Gaza. Mr. Trump’s social media post on Wednesday sought to portray many of these protesters as a riotous mob, while also seeking to stoke protesters’ anger by claiming that Mr. Biden hates the Palestinians. Mr. Biden, who grew up in Scranton, Pa., took 93 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary, scoring a yawning lead in a key battleground state. Representative Dean Phillips, who was on the ballot but dropped out of the race last month, got nearly 7 percent of the vote. The growing prominence of the theory in far-right circles has incited racist terror attacks across the world, including several mass shootings in the United States. The fun really begins when you walk through the front door and into the restaurant's lobby, which more resembles that of a movie theater. There are musty leather booths, “Careless Whisper” quietly playing over the intercom, and scattered tables filled with solo diners eating steak and sipping well tequila from a shot glass. During the primary, Ms. Lee often promoted her record in Congress, including having brought federal dollars to the district, and framed her candidacy around supporting a more diverse Democratic Party and fighting Trump-aligned Republicans. In the last fund-raising quarter, Ms. Lee collected more than three times as much money as Ms. Patel did. Ms. Lee, who in 2022 was elected the first Black woman to represent Pennsylvania in Congress and later joined the group of left-leaning lawmakers known as the Squad, defeated Bhavini Patel, a city councilwoman in Edgewood, Pa. Ms. Patel ran as a more moderate Democrat and tried to paint Ms. Lee as dismissive of voters who oppose her approach to the conflict in Gaza.
In a social media post, Mr. Santos said he was worried that he and Representative Nick LaLota, the Republican he was running to unseat, might split conservative votes. “I don’t want to split the ticket and be responsible for handing the House to Dems,” he wrote. Ms. Lee, a first-term progressive Democrat who represents a Pittsburgh-area district, was an early critic of Israel’s war in Gaza, where about 34,000 people have died since the war began six months ago. Ms. Lee’s stances against Israel’s military campaign drew a primary challenge from Bhavini Patel, a moderate Democrat who opposed Ms. Lee’s approach on the war. The Department of Housing and Urban Development estimated that there were 582,500 people experiencing homelessness in 2022.
The classic Scottish-themed steakhouse in Atwater Village might not possess those exact elements, but it does boast aggressive Tudor-style architecture that, at least for a few hours, will make you believe you’re stuck in an enchanted forest. Open since 1922, it’s one of LA’s oldest restaurants and counted Walt Disney himself as a regular, so watch your back—and the mirrors. Still, Ms. Lee drew criticism in her district from some Jewish voters, who said in the days before the election that they were unhappy with her positions on Israel. Ms. Patel, 30, also tried to cast her opponent as insufficiently supportive of President Biden. Ms. Lee has pledged to rally her coalition to support Mr. Biden this fall in Pennsylvania, a critical swing state. Ms. Haley, the former South Carolina governor, did not endorse Mr. Trump in exiting the race, and the Pennsylvania vote reflected his continuing difficulties in wooing her supporters and in fully winning over the Republican electorate.

It was not clear whether the organization’s criticism of the former president had motivated the hackers. Although it bills itself as a Haunted Restaurant, the theming inside is perhaps better suited for scary movie fans. The wait staff hustles to keep up with serving food and drinks while participating in boisterous birthday greetings that involve large flaming sparklers. We were rather boring and ordered an Old Fashioned for me and a Long Island Iced Tea for Jennifer, whose drink was a not-so-scary $5 during Happy Hour.
In a race that hung on a knife’s edge, Mr. Trump’s backing of Dr. Oz, and his scorching attacks against Mr. McCormick, proved decisive — Dr. Oz eked out a win by fewer than a thousand votes. He is positioned with the best chance yet for Republicans to unseat Mr. Casey, an 18-year incumbent who has previously sailed to re-election. He defeated his previous Republican opponent in 2018 by 13 points, and an analysis by the Cook Political Report rates the race as leaning toward the Democrats.
Garrison Douglas, a spokesman for Mr. Kemp, a Republican, said that the office was still reviewing the legislation. If there were no changes or additional documentation required for their registration, they would still be able to vote in person. It was unclear whether the changes applied to people in domestic abuse shelters or other temporary housing. The North America’s Building Trades Union didn’t so much endorse President Biden's re-election as deliver a scorching repudiation of former President Donald J. Trump. The endorsement video released by the union castigates Trump for his failures to protect worker pensions and secure a major infrastructure bill, as well as for what the unions see as the threat he poses to democracy.
Ms. Haley won small but significant protest votes this month in G.O.P. primaries in Wisconsin, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York, capturing at least 10 percent of the vote in each state. Under the bill, voters who are homeless would need to go to the county registrar’s office to see if their registration was up-to-date, to learn about a change in a polling location or request and receive an absentee ballot. Voters with a permanent residence would receive information like this at their homes. Votes for candidates like Nikki Haley who have dropped out the race — sometimes called zombie votes — are not new. According to a Times review of contested primaries since 2000, sizable shares of the electorate routinely choose someone other than the eventual nominee, even after all other serious contenders have dropped out. The zombie vote against Donald Trump this year has been low by historical standards.
The 5,000-square-foot bar and soul food joint is an homage to the horror genre fit for a cinephile. The Haunted Restaurant — which was opened in the former Melt space by Andre Scott, Ryan Gullatt, Jeremiah Burks and Chris Thomas — leans into the heyday of scary movies by embracing the classics. Get nostalgic over It or Jaws, the theme to which plays each time someone orders the Jaws Pizza ($28.99), a shrimp-, salmon-, lobster tail- and veggie-covered pizza topped with seafood cream sauce. Open since 1959, this nautical-themed drinking hole is where you go when you’re tired of Ocean Blvd.’s glossy apartment complexes and generic Italian restaurants and need to feel something authentic. There are peanut shells on the floor, a jukebox that probably doesn’t play anything later than Earth, Wind & Fire, and a giant fish on the wall that you’re almost positive is staring at you. With a plotline that features poisonous apples, talking mirrors, and a disheveled cabin filled with seven sexless men, Snow White is easily the scariest movie in the Disney vault.
Throughout his life, he suffered from mental illness, often manifesting as acute mania—contemporary historians think he may have had bipolar disorder, but there's no way to confirm this diagnosis. After he became unable to rule beginning in 1810, his eldest son became Prince Regent in 1811. Born on June 4, 1738, George William Frederick wasn’t expected to survive his premature birth. The future King George III did, of course, and three weeks after his father’s death in 1751, his grandfather King George II put the young royal in line to inherit the British throne.
Queen Charlotte character ages: How old are the characters?
Scholars have often debated the African American lineage of Queen Charlotte and how her marriage created a social shift. Bridgerton took the information in stride and used it to create the integrated ton fans now love. A century later, Queen Victoria agreed to serve as the godmother of Sarah Forbes Bonetta, a young girl born into a prominent Yoruba family. In the late 1840s, King Ghezo of Dahomey (most recently portrayed on the silver screen in The Woman King) defeated Bonetta’s tribe, killed her parents and enslaved her. After a British captain failed to convince Ghezo to abandon his role in the slave trade in 1850, the king gifted Bonetta to him as consolation.

George, meanwhile, strived to return morality to the royal family. According to the PBS series American Experience, he was the first king of the Hanover dynasty that didn’t have an extramarital affair, and the English people admired his fidelity. He built model farms at Windsor Castle and collected model ships and coins. Charlotte's ninth birthday picture was posted straight to social media on the morning of her birthday. Taken by Kate in Windsor in the days leading up to Charlotte's birthday, the image was released in the same way as Prince Louis's sixth birthday picture had been a few days earlier and not given to media in advance. However, the future King and Queen also understand that there is interest in their lives, and as such have set a precedent for releasing images of their children each year for their birthdays.
I’m almost 70 & wish I'd known a truth about makeup sooner, it's plagued my life
Prince William and Princess Kate's only daughter, Princess Charlotte, is marking her ninth birthday on May 2, after attending a series of high-profile public events over the past year. Queen Charlotte is 17 years old when she meets and marries King George in 1761. There’s even a scene in the series where Charlotte mentions her age.
She was queen for nearly 60 years and lived a fascinating life until her death in 1818. In addition to being Britain's longest-serving queen consort, she made her mark on royal history in many different ways with her contributions to society. With most of Bridgerton being very fictional—from the characters to the string quartet arrangements of “Thank U, Next”—you probably wouldn’t be surprised to hear the whole thing was just made up with no historical basis. But Queen Charlotte and King George III were actual, real members of the British royal family. Their story is just changed—and, when it comes to one important factor, inspired by a rumor. Princess Sophia Charlotte was born on 19th May 1744 to a relatively obscure duke and duchess in northern Germany.
Princess Charlotte turns 9: See the new pic taken by Kate Middleton
His mother, Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, and his advisors were eager to have him settled in marriage. Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (Sophia Charlotte; 19 May 1744 – 17 November 1818) was Queen of Great Britain and Ireland as the wife of King George III from their marriage on 8 September 1761 until her death in 1818. The Acts of Union 1800 unified Great Britain and Ireland into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
He chose her to be his bride, thrusting the sheltered teenager into the spotlight. Charlotte was about to become queen of a land she had never visited, alongside a man whom she had never met. Conclusive evidence of Charlotte's ancestry has likely been lost to history. Nevertheless, it remains important to reflect upon this element of her story, as well as to consider how the concepts of race and royalty play out in society today.
Young Queen Charlotte age
Charlotte's eighth birthday was marked with a new portrait taken in 2023 by her mother, Princess Kate. Charlotte was born in 2015 and is most often to be seen alongside her brothers, Prince George and Prince Louis, at official royal ceremonies such as the annual Trooping the Colour parade each June. Prince William was given the additional title of Duke of Cambridge when he married her mother. The princess could also end up getting a Dukedom if she chooses to get married, like her father.
As she has grown older, Charlotte has made more public appearances with her parents and her brothers. "The queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl, and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington, she was one of our first visitors here," Kate said in an interview with ITV in 2016. In an interview several months after Charlotte's birth, Kate spoke about how excited family members, including the late queen, were to have a girl join the family.
Some famous royal homes are all thanks to Charlotte and George, including Buckingham Palace. Though St James's Palace was the official residence of the royal couple, George purchased a nearby property, Buckingham House, which the couple moved into in 1762, making it Buckingham Palace, per The Royal Household website. When George III succeeded to the throne in 1760, he was only 22 years old and was not yet married. Princess Charlotte was chosen to marry him and moved from Germany to England.
